Government to start marketing organic products
The Government of India has announced a plan to start distribution and marketing of organic produce in the country through National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED).
The government’s stated aim is to also help reduce the overall cost of organic produce to make it affordable to a larger number of Indians.
We at Unifield applaud the government’s efforts towards this because it will definitely help the farming community if the government starts playing a bigger role on the distribution and marketing side of organic produce.
It will also be very beneficial for consumers to get access to more affordable food.
However, it is also important to put in mechanisms to ensure that produce marketed as organic are actually grown using organic farming methods or. at the very least, are being grown pesticide-free.
